Pi Day 2025: Celebrating My Favorite Pies!

Reading Time: 5 minutes

It’s Pi Day! My favorite food holiday, by far! I actually started this post talking about Pi Day 2025 and my favorite pies, and I got carried away, going on about a the significance of Pi Day. Next thing I knew, I had a whole other post! That’s where On Blogging About Pi Day came from. So be sure to go check it out, as it feels like a rather informative and important read for today. Though, I may be biased. It’s also the first time I contribute to Table Talk in forever! Even when I was regularly blogging, I never posted anything there lol.

THAT SAID! Let’s get into the crust of this post! See what I did there?!

So many years of making recipes and I never made one of these posts, can you believe that?! I’m excited! These are easily my favorite pies I’ve posted over the years. I have a few other pie-like recipes on the blog. Pumpkin Pasties and Apple Pie Scones come to mind as honorable mentions. But they’re not technically pie-pies, so they didn’t make the cut.

These did though! So here are my top 5 pie recipes I have on the blog.

Blueberry Tarts

These were amazing little tarts and were so incredibly simple. And before you say it, YES, they are pies! Don’t try to get all technical on me, because I’m not hearing it. This is one of my Game of Thrones inspired recipes, which I’m totally going to do one of these roundup posts for all of those, so look forward to that! I think this is the perfect way to kick off Pi Day.

Modern Blueberry Tarts

These blueberry tarts are absolute perfection in the palm of your hand. From the juicy blueberries to the lemony crust, it'll make you go beyond the wall.

Shepherd’s Pie (not Commander Shepard’s)

This one I have history with! Back in my super early days of writing game reviews for other blogs, my favorite game was Mass Effect 2. And in Mass Effect2, there was a mission where you walked around the Citadel (the main space station that is like your home base), and you had to promote one of the various stores in order to get a discount. So you had to go around and say “I’m Commander Shepard, and this is my favorite store in the Citadel.” The funny part was, you can do it to every store in order to get a discount in each one. So it became sort of a meme back in the day when it came out and it was hilarious.

So mixing my food and gaming hobbies, I wrote an fanfic type article, in the character of a food reviewer on the Citadel. And I was reviewing a restaurant on the Citadel because they had a Shepherd’s Pie that Commander Shepard themself (themself because you can choose for Commander Shepard to be a male or female when you start your game) came and tried. That the Commander loved it so much, they named it after the hero and got them to state “I’m Commander Shepard, and this is my favorite restaurant on the Citadel.”

I refer to the actual recipe as “not Commander Shepard’s Pie” because the reviewer is creating the recipe based on what he thinks is the pie since he didn’t get the official recipe from the restaurant.

See, I had fun with that one! And this is the very same recipe from way back then, so it’s great it’s still alive and kicking. Maybe I should redo that post so it lives on.

Not Commander Shepard's Pie

Paying homage to the Commander's favorite restaurant on the Citadel, this is a Shepherd's Pie that'll convince you that you're a huge fan of shepherd's pie.

Coconut Cream Pie

Here’s another favorite. What am I on, they’re all favorites lol. This one was super good though! One day the wife confessed to me her love of coconut. And me being the caring husband I am, I wanted to make her something that screamed so much coconut, that it would make her question her devotion to this forbidden fruit.

I thought, hmmm.. how can I make a coconut cream pie better? And as you can see, the answer was to make the entire crust out of shredded coconut! I’m telling you, I was so great.

And then the pictures! This is one of my favorite posts picture wise. I look at it and I’m shocked I did this. I swear, I was one of the first food bloggers out there using gifs instead of pictures. Gods, I was strong then 😔. Here, see for yourself.

Coconut Cream Pie is already epically amazing. What better way to kick it up than make the crust out of coconut!! Coconut all the things!
I'm such a coconut

Beef & Bacon Pie

Another Game of Thrones inspired recipe! I’m telling you, the next round up is going to be epic! This was one of my most popular recipes and reading some of the comments on this post was a real confidence booster. I remember making this more than a few times as well because it was such a hit at home.  I really should do an update with newer pictures. This pie deserves it. No… it demands it!

Mrs. Lovett’s Meat Pie

Here is another inspired post! This time, the honor goes to Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. I saved this one for last because it’s legit one of my favorite posts I’ve written on here.

It’s very on par with the Shepherd’s Pie post I originally wrote for the gaming blog. This meat pie post is told from the perspective of a food reviewer back in 1785 London. His task was to interview Mrs. Lovett herself at the height of her business boom. If you’re a fan of the movie, you know this was a… very specific time… There was a lot going on and I feel like only those who really know the movie will be able to appreciate everything in the post. Especially how I tie it into a character who you can actually see in the movie! Seriously, go read it and then watch and find him. I still pat myself on the back for this one.

Go check it out!

Alright that’s it! My first recipe roundup! I feel like other people just put up a collection of links and call it a day. But not this guy! I don’t know how to shut up, and dammit, I’m proud of my work here.

Go check out the posts and comment! Let me know what you think and if you’re going to make any of them. It’s Pi Day, after all, go and enjoy it!

Que dios te bendiga
