A Boy and his Blog

Remember the Name Alright! New year, new you, whatever it is people say. For a few months now, whenever I checked out the site here I saw a few things that needed updating. I couldn’t do anything, of course, because for the past few months if I had an itch I had to schedule a time to scratch it. But I finally said that’s it! I made it a priority and I’m getting it done! And I did. It took me like 2 weeks but I think it’s where I’d like it to be. Funny thing is, after doing nothing but working on it, the changes I made are barely noticeable unless you really knew the layout of my blog. Oh well, it still makes things look better around here so that’s what counts! Why so long to fix it up? Thanks to big responsibilities like cooking and cleaning, and smaller …

Happy New Year!

feature

Haaaaaaaaaaaaapppppyyy Neeeeeeeeeew Yeeeeeeeeeear! Hey, we’re more than a week into it, but so what?! It’s still exciting! Wow, I’ve gone a whole year without posting something! (Haha, I love that joke. Never gets old.) Seriously, I keep going these long stints without updating this bad boy and I promise I feel really bad about it. With a new year here and all the resolution hype surrounding the first few weeks, I’d be lying if I told you I didn’t make a resolution to blog more. I know I’m so predictable, but dammit, I have a better chance at keeping that than I do the usual eat better/get fit nonsense. Which I also made a resolution for but that’s not the point! Point is, I have this blog and I’ve hardly been using it lately. With so many unused categories and sections, I feel like this place is the Beast’s castle …

Jamberry Santa Suit Cookies

Jacks Obsession The day has finally come! I feel like I’ve been holding this secret in forever. A few weeks ago, the Wilton Treat Team was asked if we’d like to do a Secret Santa cookie swap amongst each other. With me never taking part but always having the urge to participate in one, I jumped at the idea! I thought the idea sounded like a blast. I was already thinking about the cookie I could make – a hot cocoa crinkle cookie that I love to put together this time of year. But no, there was a catch! Turns out the cookie had to be crafted/decorated in a taste or style that fit the person they’re for. Sweet! That’s a great twist, isn’t it? Makes everything about the swap even more exciting. Turns out the blogger chosen for me was Danielle Doerr from Framed Frosting! It was exciting to get …

Candy Cane and Pretzel Holiday Bark

What’s This It’s Christmas time!! Kris my Kringles, where the heck has the year gone?! I know, I’m pretty bad with this blog thing during the holidays. So many great blogs out there with so many holiday posts coming out of their yule logs. Christmas cookies, pies, all that jazz, just overflowing the internet. It’s so great to see. Sadly, I can hardly find the time to get in the kitchen to do anything these days. I mean, our outside decorations were just put up today! You’d think being a stay-at-home dad would give me some time to whip something up or get stuff done around here. Turns out tending and picking up after 2 of Santa’s little stalkers takes up a good amount of time and brain power. But here I am! I may not have time to do things I wanted to do, like this awesome free class from …

Pumpkin Spiced Pumpkin Seeds

IMG_7685 2

I Put a Spell on You Alright, so If you’re doing Halloween remotely right, there are very good odds you have already, or will be carving up a pumpkin very soon. And when you’re in there, getting elbow deep in pumpkin guts, you may or may not know about the treasure hidden inside these orange globes of fall goodness. So allow me to shed some light. It was 2 whole years ago (yikes) when we not only carved our first pumpkin, but I roasted seeds for the first time. If you go back and read that post by clicking here – which you should since it’s a great recipe and has more info on roasting – you’ll see I attempted and failed miserably (I’ll never forget that heartache) to make the seeds I’m sharing with you today. So it was good to read that again and feel like I won a battle …

Pumpkin Spiced Bone Cookies

This Is Halloween Halloween! Seven hells, it’s already Halloween.. Do you remember last Halloween? I do. Like it was yesterday! But we mustn’t complain about how time is flying or we’ll find ourselves in 2015 before we finish the rant. Instead, let’s talk Halloween! Who has traditions? Let me know in the comments. Movies? Haunted houses? Parties? For us, the one thing we always do is watch Hocus Pocus with some cookies and hot cocoa. You should know by now we are Disney freaks in this house so it shouldn’t come as a surprise. Another definite is The Nightmare Before Christmas, but it’s not a really a must-watch since it’ll be played at least 126 times between now and Christmas. There are a bunch of great movies we try and cram in: The Monster Squad, Sleepy Hallow, The Addams Family, Beetlejuice, Ghostbusters, Clue… Alright, Clue is mine. I love that movie but …

The Wife’s Sunday Dinners – Baked Macaroni and Cheese

feat

Dark Horse I hope you guys are ready because this is a post yeeeeeears in the making. Ever since I started the blog I’ve been trying my hardest to get permission to do this recipe. And after countless hours of drilling and persuading, I finally got the rights from the creator to go for it. Yes, my wife is finally letting me post her Baked Macaroni and Cheese recipe! What?! What do you mean what’s so special about mac & cheese? Are you high?! This is about as comforting as comfort food gets! And it’s easily my favorite dish from my wife’s repertoire. Little known fact: Before my wife, I never had baked mac & cheese. No, before you start questioning my childhood, I wasn’t deprived… I was Hispanic. Rice, beans, plátanos, yucca and avocados graced our tables. I’m not complaining, trust me. But still, my eyes weren’t open to …

Hellooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! I haven’t seen you guys since National S’mores Day! That was like 3 weeks ago right? I’m terrible at math, let me see how ma… whoa! That was almost 2 months ago!? How’s it going! What’s happenin’!? How’s the weather?? Ok, fine, I’ll cut the chit-chat. I’m sorry, ok! It’s not my fault I’ve been away so long. It’s what happens when I give myself projects on other sites. Speaking of which, not to drop a cheap plug, but if you’re into gaming and were/currently enjoying Disney Infinity 2.0, I wrote up a ton of content featuring the original game along with a bunch of unboxing videos and posts for 2.0. So go check it out if you’re interested! I’ll do a Humpday Gaming Update next week to bring you up to date. Of course, no matter what you may think, I haven’t forgotten about you guys here! I …

S’mores Rolls

ft bun

Happy National S’mores Day! …..Again!! You know me, I don’t usually do these food holiday things due to my lack of coordination and planning. But hey, it’s not like I was busy doing anything else here, right? Now, this was originally going to be my only post for the #WiltonSweetTreatTeam since I had made the icing with some marshmallow candy melts. Because come on, candy melts deserve the love. But as you may have read in the last post, I received a pretty sweet mailer from Wilton and I just had to use the shot glass molds. So I figured, why not? I’ll post two s’mores recipes! I know, I know. The whole food blogosphere seems to be posting something about s’mores, but I couldn’t help it. I mean, is there anything really wrong with that? They’re s’mores! You can never get enough of them. Speaking of not getting enough, …

Shot Glass S’mores

ft

Happy National S’mores Day!! I had original plans to celebrate this day, but thanks to a surprise mailer full of fall goodness from Wilton (Pumpkin Spice Candy Melts!), I decided to put in the extra effort and do something else. And if you know anything about me, it’s that I lack any type of coordination to make even one post for a food holiday. Let alone two. The timing at which these posts are going out should be enough proof. But I had the inspiration, and it was what I needed for that push. As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I’m a member of the Wilton Sweet Treat Team! And that baking version of a Loot Crate is what I get every few months so I can show you guys how awesome Wilton’s products are. In fact, they’re so awesome I had to make something with that shot glass pan as quick …
