Creamy Chicken Noodle Soup

ft

So I’ve been trying to get this on the blog for a while now. It’s been a long time coming and here it is, just in time for it to watch winter hit itself with the doorknob on the way out. We still have a few days here and there forecasted that dip in the 50’s, but for the most part we’re enjoying some nice weather. I know as of this writing a bunch of you are still getting snow, so to that I say you better make amends with Elsa soon, it’s freaking spring already! While we had some bitter cold days and 2 or 3 good snow falls, it’s nothing compared to what others have gotten. Still though, it was enough to get the wife down and depressed for weeks, wishing she never left Florida and its 2.5 seasons (that’s Mild, Hot, and Sweltering for those wondering). But …

Coconut Cream Pi, a Gastronomical Constant

ft

Happy Pi Day! Can you believe it? We’re here celebrating Pi Day again! I find it rather hilarious that Pi Day is the one constant holiday that I always try to make a post about every year. Why is that hilarious? Because I absolutely despise math! I was always terrible at it as a kid, and just like my maturity level, not much has changed since then. But we’re not here to talk about my terrible multiplication skills or my growing figurine collection that’s proof I failed to grow up after high school. We’re here to talk about pi! If you’re not familiar, pi, or π, is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. It’s a mathematical constant which means it applies to circles of all sizes. Big circle or small, the pi is always the same. If written out, the actual number is infinite and patternless, as pointed out …

Antipasto and You!

ft

Once upon a time, in a mystical, unforgivably hot, far away land – that you may know as Florida – lived my wife and I. It’s hard to think about it now, but we were young once. We lived recklessly and laughed in the face of responsibility. We did unspeakable things that I, as a parent now, am appalled by. What did we do? I’m almost afraid to tell you because I know we’ll be judged. But I must… We used to do things like… Stay out past 9. Spend the entire day at theme parks only to go home, get dressed, and go out again. We used to order Chinese takeout at 10pm to eat that night. We went to the theater to watch an opening night movie that started at 1am (that’s after midnight), didn’t get home till 3 (in the morning), only to get up in a few …

Family Travels: The Georgia Aquarium

ft

A few weeks ago for the wife’s birthday we decided to take a trip. We wanted to go somewhere the kids would enjoy, but more importantly, somewhere that wouldn’t make us have to rearrange our spending habits for the next few months like Disney is known to do. So we took a little 5 hour drive to Atlanta where we visited the Georgia Aquarium! It was a first time for me on a few fronts. I never stayed in Atlanta before and the aquarium was also new to me. The kids didn’t know what they were in for till we got there so the anticipation was immense. We left the hotel in hopes of grabbing a quick breakfast before getting there. And that’s when the tourist in us came out… If I were tell you downtown Atlanta was barren of fast food restaurants you could just drive up to and …

Caprese Salad with a Balsamic Reduction

ft

Alright, I hope everyone is ready for the best salad that has ever been created! It’s easily the simplest, tastiest, most addicting salad that you’ll probably ever try. Oh man, I sincerely hope you’ve had this before. If you haven’t, please let me know so I can unfriend you. It’s been a long time coming, getting this on the blog. I’ve made it numerous times and had multiple opportunities to document and create a post. But there’s always one thing that stopped me… The balsamic reduction. Not because it’s complicated, I mean truly, it has to be one of the simplest, most delicious secrets of the kitchen. I think I’ve been avoiding it because balsamic vinegar is kind of a big deal. One would think all condiments are created equal. But as it turns out, balsamic vinegar is so important, there are laws regulating what can be called traditional balsamic …

Heart-Shaped Brownies

ft

Heart Shaped Glasses Happy Valentine’s Day! It wouldn’t be a holiday on this blog if I didn’t cut it super close! I’ve been pretty busy and I wasn’t really planning on doing something for Valentine’s Day, but I had a pretty big reason to besides the undying love I have for my wife and her undying love for brownies… It turns out I did something right in the last year because Wilton asked me to stick around for their Sweet Treat Team!!! What does that mean?! It means Wilton is awesome and I get to show you why, that’s what it means! If you’re unfamiliar with the Sweet Treat Team, we’re a group of bloggers from all walks of life. Different interests, different areas of expertise, an insane level of creativity and skills (which I contribute about .8% to), and an all around awesome group of peeps. If you want …

A Boy and his Blog

a-boy-and-his-blog

Remember the Name Alright! New year, new you, whatever it is people say. For a few months now, whenever I checked out the site here I saw a few things that needed updating. I couldn’t do anything, of course, because for the past few months if I had an itch I had to schedule a time to scratch it. But I finally said that’s it! I made it a priority and I’m getting it done! And I did. It took me like 2 weeks but I think it’s where I’d like it to be. Funny thing is, after doing nothing but working on it, the changes I made are barely noticeable unless you really knew the layout of my blog. Oh well, it still makes things look better around here so that’s what counts! Why so long to fix it up? Thanks to big responsibilities like cooking and cleaning, and smaller …

Happy New Year!

feature

Haaaaaaaaaaaaapppppyyy Neeeeeeeeeew Yeeeeeeeeeear! Hey, we’re more than a week into it, but so what?! It’s still exciting! Wow, I’ve gone a whole year without posting something! (Haha, I love that joke. Never gets old.) Seriously, I keep going these long stints without updating this bad boy and I promise I feel really bad about it. With a new year here and all the resolution hype surrounding the first few weeks, I’d be lying if I told you I didn’t make a resolution to blog more. I know I’m so predictable, but dammit, I have a better chance at keeping that than I do the usual eat better/get fit nonsense. Which I also made a resolution for but that’s not the point! Point is, I have this blog and I’ve hardly been using it lately. With so many unused categories and sections, I feel like this place is the Beast’s castle …

Jamberry Santa Suit Cookies

featured

Jacks Obsession The day has finally come! I feel like I’ve been holding this secret in forever. A few weeks ago, the Wilton Treat Team was asked if we’d like to do a Secret Santa cookie swap amongst each other. With me never taking part but always having the urge to participate in one, I jumped at the idea! I thought the idea sounded like a blast. I was already thinking about the cookie I could make – a hot cocoa crinkle cookie that I love to put together this time of year. But no, there was a catch! Turns out the cookie had to be crafted/decorated in a taste or style that fit the person they’re for. Sweet! That’s a great twist, isn’t it? Makes everything about the swap even more exciting. Turns out the blogger chosen for me was Danielle Doerr from Framed Frosting! It was exciting to get …

Candy Cane and Pretzel Holiday Bark

featured

What’s This It’s Christmas time!! Kris my Kringles, where the heck has the year gone?! I know, I’m pretty bad with this blog thing during the holidays. So many great blogs out there with so many holiday posts coming out of their yule logs. Christmas cookies, pies, all that jazz, just overflowing the internet. It’s so great to see. Sadly, I can hardly find the time to get in the kitchen to do anything these days. I mean, our outside decorations were just put up today! You’d think being a stay-at-home dad would give me some time to whip something up or get stuff done around here. Turns out tending and picking up after 2 of Santa’s little stalkers takes up a good amount of time and brain power. But here I am! I may not have time to do things I wanted to do, like this awesome free class from …
