Games I’m Playing 9.14.26 (Podcast Episode 47)

How Los-a got his groove back!

Alright, new episode here for your listening pleasure! We are post Nintendo Direct so there is much to discuss! Buuuuuuuuuut not quite yet. I know, it’s not my fault, listen…

I had every intention of this being a show dedicated to the September Nintendo Directs, both the regular one covering everything, and the one where The Legend of Zelda’s 40th Anniversary was celebrated. But… I got distracted. Like I do. I can’t help it, I had a lot to catch up with!

So, what did I talk about this episode?

The Switch 2 Era Has Begun

I have gone on record on a few episodes of Retro World Order, that I am currently in my Steam Deck Era. Look, I’m sure there are plenty of better ways of saying that, but maybe I just like proclaiming it? Ever think of that?! Anyway. My Steam Deck Era has officially came to an end. And now, I am sitting in my Switch 2 Era and I’m mighty happy here.

The Nintendo Directs were a one-two punch that reminded me “oh yeah, I have this awesome thing!” It’s pretty sad that I need reminders of that, but that’s how I roll sometimes. I have a one track mind when it comes to things. Thanks, ADHD! I can’t help it, if I’m into something, then I’m INTO IT, you know what I’m sayin’? I was all about my Steam Deck after not touching it foooooorever. But I think it was Mina the Hollower that came out, together with getting a hold of an AYN Thor that turned me back onto Steam. I was so about it, that I was thinking about rebuying games on the cheap that I already had on the Switch just so I can play them on the Steam Deck/Thor. There’s a lot of crazy in my brain, don’t @ me.

Anyway, during this time, I do not even think about my Switch 2. It just sits there in a drawer, sad, wondering why I’ve left it. But now? Now the rolls have reversed. And knowing how my mind works, I have already fully charged the Steam Deck, shut it down, and placed it in the drawer. Don’t worry, I reassured it its time will come again. Juuust not right now.

And that’s where I’m at! The Switch 2 Era! And it’s all thanks to Ocarina of Time, which I’ll get more into next episode.

For now, what else have I been playing?

Luigi’s Mansion 3

There is not an ounce of lies when I tell you I’ve been trying to play this game for 6 years. Every single spooky season I say to myself “welp! Time to pop in Luigi’s Mansion 3!” And then proceed to never turning it on LOL.

October is just busy for me. Statistically speaking, I’m ALWAYS busy during October and I couldn’t tell you what it is. What game time I have I usually spend on quicker, more bite size stuff. So the idea of a story based anything is out of my mind. But now? Now that I’m in my *gestures to the crowd* Switch 2 Era, I feel like this may finally be the year!

Hades

Speaking of it finally being the year, I have yet to complete a run through Hades! I know, I know. What is up, indeed. Listen, I am a late adopter. I didn’t get into it until waaaaaaay after everyone else did. But I’m into it now! The moment that it clicked I knew I was in for it. My lord, the way this grabs me.

I’m such a sucker for greek mythology. And the way the gods and demi-gods play roles in the story, more and more getting drop fed to you every time you die. The gameplay loop, the visuals, the SOUNDTRACK, Mmm. *chef’s kiss*

I made it all the way to Hades for the first time a few weeks ago. Completely wigged out and choked. And you would think, so much time and effort to build up the skill and muscle memory to get there, and then I lose, my first reaction SHOULD have been rage quit. But nope! I went right back in there like the glutton for punishment that I am. And I loved every second of it. Can’t wait to finish it up so I can jump into Hades II !

Disney Dreamlight Valley

Here’s one that I got really into (again) with the princess. It began as just helping her out in her Valley, telling her where she had to go and whatnot. And then it quickly transitioned into my grabbing my Steam Deck and playing alongside her.

Next thing I knew we were both owners of the DLC expansions, and I was inviting her over my Valley to give her a ton of pumpkins that I finally was able to start planting, and then she kept on unlocking characters for hers while I focused more on unlocking the areas, to which she made fun of me, and I had to keep reminding myself that “OMG you don’t have Mike & Sully yet?! I’ve had them forever!” is something I totally let her get away with because I’m a good dad but it doesn’t really matter because we’re both having a good time and that’s what counts right?? *deep breath*

Seriously though, this game is crack and I get so distracted with the tiniest little thing for hours on end. Ye be warned! Personally, I love the interactions with the characters. And sometimes, I make stuff up in my head.

Like right here, I was just doing my daily chores and then I see Kristoff and Elsa sitting on the bench together, and Elsa quickly gets up at the sight of me as if they just got caught doing something…. UH HUH. I’m onto you, Ice Queen! Powers are ice and your sister gets the man whose profession and life was ice?!

LEGO Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight

Since I recently finished this I’m planning on actually reviewing it here, so stay tuned! It was a fun one! And absolutely freaking GORGEOUS! Best looking LEGO game ever by a long shot. I always preferred the Marvel LEGO games over DC. But the formula of this one… it’s different. It’s not the typical LEGO game and that helped me really dig into it.

I also played this with the daughter and it was a super fun experience. Even when I didn’t want to play it, she held me accountable and reminded me “HEY, we need to finish Batman!” So who am I to deny that?? I miss playing all the LEGO games with the boys so it was nice to jump in to a new one and play with the princess.

I threw out the idea of me being Batman and her being Batgirl for Halloween but it was quickly rejected. Guess she doesn’t like it that much.

Fortnite Chapter 7, Season 3

Real quick, I also played a bunch of Fortnite. I had the Battle Pass unlocked thanks to the teen wanting Game Pass for a month so I took heavy advantage. I really wanted John Wick because I’m a big fan of the movies and he seems perfect in here. Also a huge fan of the Pen & Ink skins so I was a happy camper.

It was awesome being in the Simpsons again too, and on top of that, a John Wick-ified Simpsons! Moe as a bartender in The Continental? C’mon! It was the first time in a looooooong time I cared about playing through a Battle Pass so I had fun.

I feel like I got a lot off my chest so now I can be more focused to talk about the Direct on the next show. See, it’s almost like I planned this out!

Adios until next time!
