Movie Review: Project Hail Mary (Spoiler Free!) (Podcast Episode 45)
AMAZE AMAZE AMAZE!
Time to warm up those jazz hands and give a big 👎🏽 because we’re talking Project Hail Mary! The movie was… well, I guess I’ll leave that for you to listen to. Something I will say is that this review is coming from someone who considers Project Hail Mary to be his favorite book since the day he first read it back in 2022! That he is me, you know, in case that got confusing. But whatever! I’m excited! Finally getting to talk about this and having it documented somewhere!
I’ve mentioned in my most recent blog post how much I fall behind when it comes to getting stuff posted on the blog. And it stinks because if anything deserved to be on there written in stone, is how much I adore Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. And just to add to that, it is also the top spot for my favorite audiobook thanks to the world class narration by Ray Porter. I know, I know, nothing to do with the movie, but it’s not like I’m going to tell you everything I thought here! That’s what the show is for! So get to it!

So here’s some stuff that you can only see here!
I don’t think I even mentioned all this on the show. I thought about it after the fact and kicked myself for it.
But the excitement for this movie was reaching all the way back to June of 2024! I mean, technically. Of course, after I read the book for the first time I was full of hope and excitement for some sort of big screen presence. But no, in June 2024, we got the very first update from on the set from Chris Miller on instagram and it was hyyyyyyyyyyyyyype.
Ahhh, a time when I was on social media. So crazy to think about. ANYWAY. I was excited! And it carried all the way over March when about 2 weeks before the movie released, movie theaters decided to sell Project Hail Mary merch early!

At the time, did I regret spending 50 or so dollary doos on popcorn buckets? Sure, sure. Buuuuuuuut….. Did I really though?
Honestly, it was a super easy decision. This is my favorite book, now turned major motion picture. Yeah I’m going to go nuts if there’s merch to be had! It sucks though I missed out on two things..
Now, the following I’ll put in spoilers for obvious reasons. I mean, you SHOULD know by now because you’ve read the book or watched the movie, right?! But just in case you didn’t, just don’t click on the thingy right here.
AHHHH AN ALIEN! OK, so there were these two things, a shoulder buddy and another popcorn bucket. I did not see them EVER over here. They were sold out long before I got to the theater. And rightfully so! They’re so freaking cool.
BUT! Lucky me that I know some really cool peeps! A buddy of mine from the Discord found some in his theater and picked one up for me and sent it over! So if you’re keeping tabs, that was about $80 I spent on freaking popcorn buckets!
But look at this guy! Who needs money, right?!
*cries in a mountain of popcorn buckets.*
Alright back to regularly scheduled program.
So anyway, since I’m now rich in popcorn buckets, how about watching the actual thing??
It released the same weekend my teenager’s gf was in town so he decided to go out with her and whoever else instead of watching the movie with his brother and I. I know right?! Boy, did he miss out!
Since we went to a super early show on opening day, we were greeted with free posters! My goodness, am I ever a poster guy! And it helps I absolutely adore this poster and its design.
I think that concluded the journey of my excitement for opening day. If you listened to the show you would know how I felt about the movie. If you haven’t listened to it then what are you waiting for??
OH! Adam Savage! You know Adam Savage, the more easy going, friendlier half of The Mythbusters. He’s got a YouTube channel called Adam Savage’s Tested. There’s also a site that goes with it if that’s your thing. But he goes absolutely crazy with finding the science and fun of pop culture and technology. It is one of my favorite channels to nerd out on and for great reason! He recently went in depth with Jon Favreau to check out the new Razor Crest for The Mandalorian and Grogu movie! Needless to say, he was ALL OVER Project Hail Mary when it released. Absolutely loved his behind the scenes stuff. So if you want to deep dive and nerd out with Adam like I did, here are the videos for that!
MAN, what a job to have. Would absolutely love to check out how sets for such movies are made and utilized.
Ok ok ok, that’s enough of this, I think I made it clear you need to go watch the movie. Cannot wait for the physical edition release! Which STILL hasn’t been up for pre-order so I’m a little nervous but we’ll see!
