Humpday Update 5/7/25: Anniversaries, Games, Movies, and Fonts
Reading Time: 8 minutes
Another week another humpday update! I really wanted to skip this week but got dang it’s was a doozy. So what happened?? Blog updates, Star Wars, anniversary, gaming, what didn’t happen?!
Humpday Update
- Elephant in the room! Fresh off the heels of Star Wars Day. I feel like I’ve been celebrating for days because we went and I’ve been writing that post for 2 days. Then watching various Star Wars things for about a week now, it is all fairly prominent in my head haha.
- I saw this meme regarding Revenge of the Sith and I couldn’t help but feel horrible after I laughed hard.
- Also, where in the heck did “Revenge of the Sixth” come from?! We have May the 4th, right? That’s Star Wars Day. Duh. But for years, May 5th was always regarded as Revenge of the Fifth, in contrary to May the 4th. Well this year, Amazon sent out a bunch of Star Wars stuff for Revenge of the Sixth, yesterday, May 6th. I hate how much more sense that makes!! But why is it seemingly everywhere now as if it’s been a thing when it’s always been on the 5th?? Ok, I’m done now, I’ll go back to my universe, sorry.
- Actually, I just found something while looking for a link! Revenge of the Fifth and Revenge of the Sixth can be both used ……. because of the Sith’s rule of two 😳😳 Oh man, freaking nerds, they are smart with stuff!
- It was the wife and I’s anniversary late last week. 16 years! So crazy, it’s hard to believe sometimes. Almost as if we’re doing SOMETHING right. Maybe it’s because every day with her is like the first day? Could be something to do with it. Here’s to hoping we have many many many more happy years together.
- Not sure if you’re aware, but every year of an anniversary, there is supposed to be a theme to the gifts you give each other. This year was wax…. Yeah. Like, hope you like candles, right? Actually, it worked out a lot better. I got her the Wicked soundtrack on vinyl. You know, because a vinyl record is considered wax. Her, she got me actual wax! As in a wax seal kit! Omg I’ve always wanted one. I’m such a nerd for this stuff and I can’t wait to use it.
- No, I’m not going to start sending letters to people instead of emails. I’m planning on using them to seal the envelopes for my shop’s orders! She picked out this super awesome seal of a dragon on a shield with a sword and it fits PERFECT with my knight theme of my shop! I’ve been wanting to use wax seals for my orders since day one but never would’ve spent the money on a kit. She did good this year.
- Unlike my gift. Which is still sitting there unopened… 😔
- You notice I also got Chef on Blu-Ray and the J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek trilogy on 4K. Man, I cannot wait to get on that physical media rant here. It’s going to be such a huge soap box that everyone is going to be begging me to jump down from.
- If you’ve never watched Chef, as soon as you’re done here, either go stream it somewhere, or buy it! Amazon has it for $8!!! (that’s an affiliate link, use it to give me a small kick back, thank you!) It’s from 2014, it has an all-star cast, the story is deep, and it’s one of those food movies that leave you so hungry. It’s so freaking good, and that’s not just the chef in me talking. Check out the trailer here!
- I’m not a Star Trek fan at all. Never was. Heck, I didn’t get into Star Wars until I was in my 20’s. But the J.J. movies? I freaking LOVE them! Well, the first two. I never watched the third one, and I just realized that the other day hahaha. But seriously, the first one is one of those comfort movies for me, I just love the story so much. I’m a sucker for time traveling stories, what can I say?
- Another pick up for this week was Just Friends. We’re huge Ryan Reynolds fans here and this was always a favorite of ours. Wife loves to make fun of me because I used to love singing I Swear, and well, you know. If you’ve never watched, go check it out! This blu-ray was just re-released after being out of print for a long time. The aftermarket prices were creeping up in the $70 range which is NUTS for a blu-ray. So happy they reprinted it and we upgraded happily from our DVD copy. The initial wave of the re-print actually sold out for a few weeks after it released so that makes me happy to see people still care about physical media. If you want to grab yourself a copy, here’s another Amazon affiliate link for ya! – Just Friends on blu-ray.
- Fortnite has crocs now. I haven’t played fortnite in about 3 seasons. I think this is the longest I’ve gone without playing it at all. But i turned it on to see the new Star Wars pass and saw the crocs. And I hated myself for the few seconds that i actually considered getting them.
- The Star Wars stuff is pretty cool like always. I want to check it out and see how the X-Wings fly. I don’t know, I always found myself gravitating towards Fortnite a lot more during 3 times a year: Halloween, Christmas, and Star Wars Day. Maybe I should give myself a break and check it out.
- Speaking of games, I’ve been playing a lot more with the princess. Finding the love again for the simpler kid games like Lego. We’ve been tackling Lego Star Wars Skywalker Saga which is great since i never truly gave it a go. It’s reminding me of when I used to sit and play and platinum all the Lego games with the boys…
- Ugh. Dumb dog hair got in my eye.
- Other games we’ve been playing have been Mario Kart, which she’s taken a huge interest in, and Sackboy’s Big Adventure. I absolutely adored LittleBigPlanet on the PS3 and had high hopes for Big Adventure, but it never sunk its teeth in me. But now, playing with the princess, I have a whole new angle to learn how to enjoy it. I tried getting her to play Animal Crossing but I don’t think she’s ready for it. As much as I was hoping she would be.
- Freaking games. I’ve been depriving myself and it sucks. I want to just sit and relax and play something, but I refuse to because I know my addictive nature will prohibit me from being productive. And we’re still very much not comfortable enough for me to chillax with my hustling. But once we are, I’ll be excited to pick up something to play and enjoy.
- Maybe this right here?! Tales from the Shire is one of those cozy games that help chill your mind. Nothing crazy, fast paced, or carpel tunnel inducing finger yoga to pull off combos. Just you, living a peaceful and quiet life as a FREAKING HOBBIT!
- The picture above is the iam8bit Exclusive Edition that comes with an amazing special slipcover, map, and digital download of the soundtrack. All for $40! If I’m lucky enough to jump on this, I’d pick it up for the Switch and maybe, if I’m REALLY lucky, I’ll be able to play through it on my shiny Switch 2.
- Check out the dev diary video and tell me it’s not going to be zen AF.
- Speaking of Lord of the Rings, I saw this meme the other day and it made me chuckle something fierce 😂
New on the Blog!
- MOVIE REVIEW | A Working Man – I go over my thoughts on Jason Statham’s newest revenge beat ’em up. I don’t know if you’re a fan of these types of movies, but I guess I am!
- Revenge of the Fifth: Star Wars Day – May the 4th 2025 – This was a doozy of a post! It started out as a look back on last year’s Star Wars Day because we couldn’t make it out to Galaxy’s Edge this year. But half way through writing it, we wound up going! We got our Jedi on just enough to warrant updating the post with everything.
The Business End
Ok, so what technical stuff is happening behind the scenes. here? Let’s see…
- Can’t tell if you noticed. Probably did. But I changed the fonts here. It’s been an irk to me ever since I got back on the ball. Something about how it was felt off. I dug it, but wasn’t sold on it completely, I guess. But I liked it juuuuust enough to leave it alone whenever I came here to post something. Laziness will almost always prevail with me haha.
- Anyway, huge thanks to Matti – friend of the blog, past podcast guest (actually, my very first guest!), and former fellow Future Monkey – for pointing it out to me from a readers standpoint. I needed a push to tell me it needed to be changed so I could get off my butt to do it. And I’ll take his word, as he is co-owner of 3Thought, where they do graphic design, logos, web design, rebranding, and all that good stuff you might need for your business. So be sure to go check them out if you’re in the market for something needing done!
- Something else that’s new is the review box! If you remember correctly, it was introduced back in the A Minecraft Movie review.
- I wanted something that was a quick rundown in a small package. Something that gave you a rating and tidbits about it like the poster art and a synopsis of my thoughts, together with links to pre-ordering/buying, etc.. But most importantly, something Pinterest-able lol. This wasn’t it! Haha. I liked the info in there but it’s not something shareable. Plus – and this was the nail in the coffin – when I went to go do it again for my review of A Working Man, I couldn’t easily replicate it. There’s not template to save so I had to go through and change the color and font and other general things about the layout for every single one of these that I would do. Um, no thanks.
- So I did what I do best. Opened up Procreate and went to work. Made myself my own review box that I could now easily update thanks to how I set it up. I made it.. umm.. template-able? It’s a template, ok?! So real easy I can just pop in whatever information and save it and boom, I got my little review box.
- I’m going to totally change up the colors and replicate it for book reviews and game reviews too. I’m rather happy with it.
OK, that be it for this week’s humpday update!
Until next time!
