Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaappy New Year!
Ok, it was more than a week ago, but it still counts! It’s been a while, I know. Yes, I said I was going to update regularly again, I’m aware. You can’t blame me though, life has been cray! We’ve been livin’ the dream, running around like chickens without heads, all while wondering where oh where is the time going. I still have my list of things I want to write for here, and I’m still wanting to get into the rhythm again.
Maybe my New Year’s resolution will help. What is my resolution? It’s to write more blog posts! Haha, nah, jk. Well, sorta. It’s to be more productive and organized. Primarily speaking about me, personally. As in being more productive with myself, with my time. I feel like I spend a lot of time doing nothing when I could be doing something. So I’m fixing to give myself a list of things to do and an order to do them in. I always complain about having so many things to do and so little time to do them, who doesn’t, right?! Well, this should fix that. I divided my Life Pile of Shame into 4 groups: stuff, games, books, and blog posts. Yeah, stuff. Get your own Pile of Shame if you don’t like it.
The way I see it is stuff is general things. Organizing things around the house, fixing files on my computer, etc. It’s just general… stuff. Games are self-explanatory. As much you (or mostly, my wife) may think, I actually don’t spend a lot of time playing games. I honestly spend more time acquiring and talking about games than I do actually playing them. Kinda weird, actually, but it’s what I do. And books! I always want to read more and I never do, so hopefully this will help me. I just started a book club with my gaming community that will hopefully light a fire under reading more. Then we come to blog posts. And it’s not just you guys here. I’m talking gaming posts too on FutureMonkeys.com where I blog and co-host a podcast. Heck, I already started with that! I finished and actually wrote a review for the first game I beat this year (Batman: The Telltale Series)! So far, the plan is working. What’s the plan? Here’s the plan…
I’m going to play a game, then write about it. Then I’m going to read a book, and write about it. Then I’m going to write a blog post, and write about it. Wait… OK… maybe I’ll just write two blog posts, that makes more sense. Then I’ll take some time out to do random things that need to be done. Not only will this help me get through my embarrassing pile of stuff that I’ve accumulated for my hobbies, but it’ll also help me with my time management which, let’s face it, needs some desperate improving.
Now that’s a plan, right?! I’m doing this for me. Mentally, I feel like I could be in better places sometimes. And with life the way it is and how much of a chaotic storm daily tasks have been lately, I can do with some order in my head. With this schedule and a list of actual games and books I want to get through, I feel like I’d be more excited and more eager to jump into things and finish them. Because I SWEAR, 90% of my free time that I have to play or read or do whatever, I spend it sitting there… Trying to decide what it is I want to really do. THEN when I finally DO decide what I want to do, it’s at the point where it’s too late to even bother doing the damn thing, and I wind up just spending two hours on twitter or reddit, killing time till I pass out.
This is my life. NO, wait… This WAS my life. See! Positive thinking.
And no, I’m not neglecting my family in pursuit of sitting on my ass and playing games or reading books. Everything is running as normal. It’s just my spare time that I’m trying to utilize better. It’s usually sacrificing a few hours of sleep because that’s the only time I really have to do anything. But hey, it works for me. I get about 2 ½ hours in the morning while both kids are in school (2nd grade and pre-k), but that flies by so quick I’m usually cleaning up around the house most of the time. You know, if I’m not being lazy.
So where are you at with resolutions?! Do you ever try and keep them? And how were the holidays?!? Hopefully all went as good for you as it did for me. Until next time.
